Definitions:

SourcesThese are books, periodicals and electronic sources available in the library.
Source development: The process of selecting, purchasing and managing the Library ' s sources.
Remove: Removal of sources from the Library collection on the basis of standards.
Continuing removal: Daily action to remove unwanted sources of library collections.
Systematic removal: It is a long-term process to remove a large quantity of sources from library collections.
An umbrella address.: It refers to the addresses that library staff can watch, not users.
Shadow sources: References to sources that can be presented to library staff, not users.
Objective:

In compliance with Pete ' s vision and message of philosophy, it is necessary to develop a policy of removing the Library ' s sources. It also aims to provide a justification for the permanent removal of materials from the Library Group.
Scope:

This policy applies to all sources available in the Barqawi Library.
Statement:

For any type of libraries, the removal of Library acquisitions or withdrawal is an important part of the management of their own collections. The systematic removal of the Library ' s sources of damaged, old, duplicate or in poor condition helps maintain modern and attractive collections, providing space and time to both researchers and library staff, helps to reduce scattered shelves. It is important not only to purchase new materials, but also to dispose of old or no longer required sources.
Actions:

The Library uses several methods to denounce the sources of the Library:
Ongoing withdrawal:
This method provides opportunities for the removal of Library acquisitions as a result of an immediate solution to a problem in the relevant article(s) such as:

  • New issuances are purchased and decisions are required to retain or withdraw old issuances.
  • Sources in bad condition or missing elements returned to the secondment office shall be directed to the Chief of Technical Services to make a decision on replacement, re-establishment, repair or removal, with input from specialists on the subject.
  • Sources that have been declared missing (either through loan procedures or an inventory) to the Chief of Technical Services for replacement, with input from specialists.

Withdrawal of curriculum:

  • These methods require preparatory work by library staff and usually include larger quantities of sources from several areas, and therefore at the project level, such methods may require more attention than the methods described below.
  • For example, a project to remove refrigerated material, as well as to remove the titles of printed books that have been replaced by electronic books, has been eliminated.
  • Subjects are examined by specialists in the same area to assess research; this type of source of old, inaccurate or unrelated material is usually removed and is closely consistent with use, date of publication and loan statistics.
  • The Library periodically reviews serial editions, while the purpose of the audit is not to eliminate, it is important to ensure that the necessary serial editions are allocated to the community ' s family, in the event of the cancellation of part of a series, the Library must remove the serial patrols printed retrospectively from the group.
  • Previous issuances of patrols will be linked and stored in public shelves, subject to the removal of patrols in the same circumstances as other substances, but usually retained.
  • Systematic removal procedures for multiple copies or subject matter in the same area.
  • The preparatory work must normally be completed by the Library staff before the addresses are removed from the collection.
  • The use of the library management system is an extension system for the establishment of lists indicating the number of copies or dates of publication, etc. Bibliographical records can be used to establish the library acquisition removal list, which can then be used in print or electronic format to support the project to remove the Library ' s sources with reference numbers, addresses, etc.
  • Determining a publication date as criteria for the removal of library sources for library staff helps to avoid future problems (e.g. the withdrawal of old materials recently added). Given the Library ' s commitment to purchase long-term addresses, it should not include the removal of published material banks over the past 10 years, with a few exceptions.
  • Library staff must determine how to identify the materials selected to remove the Library ' s acquisitions.
  • After identifying candidates for the removal of sources, the Library secretariat must inform the beneficiary community of the books that have been withdrawn.
  • Once the deadline for removal of sources from the Library has been set, the Librarian will inform the Director of the Library or Supervisor about the approximate number of addresses and copies to be removed (as a courtesy of business considerations).
  • The Director of the Library or Superintendent will send the final report to the Administration for approval.
  • In turn, he discusses it with the Administration.
  • Change the status of a copy to "out of the group."
  • The material is removed from the shelves.
  • All items temporarily withdrawn will be sent to the library main store.
  • Displaced materials may be destroyed or distributed to other libraries, school libraries, individuals or institutions as gifts.
