UNESCO has consistently cultivated strong ties with philosophy—not only in its contemplative or normative forms but also through a critical inquiry that opens up possibilities for imbuing life and action with meaning in a global context. UNESCO was born out of questioning the conditions for the emergence of a world of sustainable peace and security. In this sense, it can be considered a philosophical institution in its own right, positioning itself as a stakeholder in promoting peace and security by prioritizing education, science, and culture, and fostering solidarity among nations to ensure universal respect for justice, law, human rights, and fundamental freedoms for all, without discrimination based on race, gender, language, or religion.
