Ontology of the Self

In this book, Ahmad Barqawi seeks to present a philosophical vision of the “self” as an active mode of being that enters existence only through history, society, and culture. He holds that the ontology of the selfsignifies the establishing the self’s existence in the Arab world, within a context where the individual strives to free themselves from traditional structures and dependencies, in order to become a conscious, autonomous being capable of self-formation and participation. The book explores how the Arab self is yet to achieve a genuine position as an agent in history, and it offers a vision for its rebirth through awareness, community, and self-empowerment.
