Our endeavor to compile an Arabic philosophical dictionary stems from an important question: How do we, as Arabs, think about philosophy, its figures, concepts, books, and problems, in order to give this dictionary a distinct imprint from those dictionaries that have been translated into Arabic?
The publication of the Fujairah Philosophical Dictionary fills a gap in dictionaries of a translated nature, including those compiled and often based on Western lexical references. Furthermore, the dictionary aspires to liberate itself from the Eurocentrism that has dominated and continues to dominate many forms of consciousness, including philosophical consciousness.
The Fujairah Philosophical Dictionary is a continuation of the Arab lexicographical activity that produced the Al-Jurjani Dictionary and the Dictionary of Universals by Abu al-Baqa’ al-Kafwi, without diminishing the efforts of contemporary Arab philosophers in this field.
