Rebellion is considered a part of the fabric of human existence; we rebel against many things in life: injustice, cruelty, oppression, poverty, suffering, deprivation, slavery, chaos, weakness, and so on. However, the rebellion we mean here is broader and deeper than the afore mentioned; it is existential rebellion, or rebellion against the condition of humanity in this existence. We exist within a world where we encounter many circumstances over which we have no will or choice. We were born at a specific historical moment, in a certain society, and within a particular culture. There are others—whom I have never known and who have never known me—who long ago shaped decisions and laws that now govern my freedom and destiny, even in the most intricate details of my life.
